Blazers Double Elks 4-2 to Punch Ticket For League Final

 
Lower Sackville, NS. March 29, 2013. Friday night, in a crowd of over 1,100, the Sackville Blazers doubled the Brookfield Elks in game seven and will now meet the Strait Pirates for the league final and the right to represent the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League at the Don Johnson Cup April 23-28.

Less than three minutes into the opening period Blazer captain knocked home a goal-mouth pass from Andrew Skinner to get the home team on the scoreboard first. Ross Barnhart also picked up an assist. Midway through the period Liam Carr picked up a Devon Muir centring pass from the corner and beat Blazer goaltender Brennan Laite low on the stick side. Thirty seconds later the Blazers took the lead again when Andrew Taylor drilled one from the point from Skinner and Oderkirk. A minute later James Shapleigh picked up a loose puck off the back boards and picked the top corner on Laite to tie the game at two.
 
Shots were dead even at 13 apiece.
 
The Blazers took a 3-2 second period lead when Ryan Davis gained the Brookfield blueline then fed a streaking Brett Arthur who beat Brookfield goaltender Spencer Scott from in close. Jarrett Johns also picked up an assist.
 
Shots in the second period favoured the Blazers 16-11 for a 2-period total of 29-24.
 
Less than a minute, into the final period, Andrew Skinner corralled a loose puck and on the wrap-around found the back of the net on Scott and give the Blazers a 4-2 lead. Ross Barnhart and Shayne Oderkirk picked up the assists. The line of captain Shayne Oderkirk, Andrew Skinner and Ross Barnhart kicked in with 8 points for the Blazers.
 
Brennan Laite picked up his 8^th win of the playoffs while Spencer Scott was tagged with the loss.
 
Final shots were 37-35 Sackville.
 
The Blazers, who picked up the Fred Fox banner will now tangle with the Sid Rowe Champion Strait Pirates for the league championship.
